ANN ARBOR – Michigan finally found Frank Beckmann’s replacement.
The school, alongside its partner IMG College, announced Thursday that former CBS announcer Dan Dierdorf will replace Beckmann as the radio color commentator announcer for the Michigan football team this fall.
Dierdorf will join Jim Brandstatter, who will handle play-by-play duties, in the booth.
Dierdorf and Brandstatter were teammates on the Michigan football team during the 1969 and 1970 seasons.
“I’m so excited to be able to come back to my alma mater and contribute in this manner,” Dierdorf said in a statement. “This is the only broadcasting job that I would have considered after retiring from network television.”
Dierdorf has spent the past 24 years as a NFL commentator for CBS. He announced his retirement from television earlier this year.
He will be a welcome addition to the radio air waves in the state of Michigan. It also helps that he has ties to the school and understands the importance of its tradition and pageantry.
