Jesse Cardenas garners Eastern Michigan offer

It took Eastern Michigan over a month, but the Eagles have finally offered Jesse Cardenas, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound outside linebacker from Lakeville, Minnesota.

Cardenas attended Eastern Michigan’s Junior Day on April 12 to meet the coaching staff, view the football facilities and check out campus.

Wisconsin and Wyoming are two schools that have visited him since then and Air Force offered him a scholarship — the Falcons are the only other Football Bowl Subdivision program to offer him. He also holds interest from Minnesota, Montana and North Dakota State, among other Football Championship Subdivision schools.

Last season he recorded 101 tackles — 15 for loss — and three sacks as a junior for Lakeville North.

Eastern Michigan has offered eight different outside linebackers this offseason and the position is one of need. The Eagles will use four underclassmen and only three juniors at linebacker this fall.

From a film standpoint, Cardenas is a downhill player who reads his keys well. He’s a serviceable tackle but clearly needs to add some weight and muscle.
