Concordia University is one step closer to playing football on a brand new field this fall.
The Cardinals — which started their football program in 2009 — have played in the Mid-States Football Conference since 2011 and will now have a comparable football field to host opponents.
Courtesy of CUAA defensive coordinator Joshua Schumacher, we now have an update of how far along the school is building its new football field. The image shows construction crews in the first stages of laying down the field’s turf on a very, very large slab of concrete.
A fancy field will help the school all around. As an example, the team played their spring game on the school’s soccer field, a small lot without field goal posts. This field will help in recruiting and home game attendance initially.
CUAA finished 1-9 last season. It scrimmages Alma College at 4 p.m. Aug. 29 on its new field before hosting Trinity International University in the season opener at 1p.m. Sept. 6.
