MSU's Geiger, Notre Dame's Brindza makes Lou Groza Award watch list

The Lou Groza Award announced Wednesday that 30 kickers have debuted on its watch list, including Michigan State sophomore Michael Geiger and Notre Dame senior Kyle Brindza.

Geiger, a 5-foot-8, 186-pound Toledo, Ohio native (Ottawa Hills), set a single-season record by making 93.8 percent of his field-goal attempts (15-of-16) as a freshman last season. That mark ranked first in the Big Ten and fourth in the country, while he also finished second in team scoring (81 points).

Brindza is a 6-foot-1, 236-pound Canton native (Plymouth) who was 20-of-26 on field goals which includes a school-record three field goals of at least 50 yards. He was also perfect (38-of-38) on extra points.

Florida State redshirt sophomore Roberto Aguayo won the Lou Groza Award last season, going 21-of-22 on field goals and 94-of-94 on extra points.
