Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr will speak at Detroit’s Holy Redeemer Grade School during a July 24 banquet to help raise money for the school. Bo Schembechler and Jim Leyland have helped the school raise money in the past.

The Big Ten announced Thursday that Frank Clark, Devin Gardner and Jake Ryan will represent Michigan and Shilique Calhoun, Connor Cook and Kurtis Drummond will represent Michigan State at the league’s 43rd Annual Kickoff Luncheon held Monday and Tuesday, July 28 and July 29, at the Hilton Chicago.

Notre Dame wide receiver Will Mahone can no longer attend the school until his felony charges are resolved. The sophomore received charges of assault on a police offer, intimidation of a public servant and vandalism after a June 14 arrest in Austintown, Ohio.

The game show Jeopardy! recently used Notre Dame as a clue for a question. All jokes aside, that Fighting Irish team was fun to watch each week.

The Remington Trophy placed Western Michigan senior offensive lineman Jon Hoffing on its preseason watch list. Hoffing played 827 offensive snaps in 12 games last season, including a career-best 87 snaps against Nicholls State.

Saginaw Valley State named former wide receiver Jeff Janis its male Ryder Athlete of the Year on Thursday. Janis made 83 catches for 1,572 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, en route to the Green Bay Packers selecting him in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft this past spring.

DirecTV released a statement Thursday that said it is in the middle of “productive discussions” with the SEC Network with the goal of reaching an agreement to air the new college football network this fall. The network, which launches Aug. 14, struck a deal with COX on Wednesday.
