Daily Peninsula: Jim Thorpe Award announces watch listers

Western Michigan senior defensive back Donald Celiscar made the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List on Friday. He is not a shutdown corner in the Mid-American Conference, but he is the closest thing fans will find in the league now that Jimmie Ward is in the NFL.

The Jim Thorpe Award Watch also named Michigan junior Black Countess, Michigan State junior Trae Waynes and Michigan State senior Kurtis Drummond to its watch list, joining a host of 39 of the top defensive backs in the country.

Michigan State secured a commitment from a four-star running back, the fourth-best 2015 player at his position in the country.

FBSchedules took a look at 10 future blockbuster games and included a pair of Notre Dame home-and-home series matchups and Michigan’s contest with Florida. Notre Dame and Texas play a home-and-home series in 2015 and 2016, the first time the schools have met since 1996. The Fighting Irish’s home-and-home series with Georgia will be just as fun to watch in 2017 and 2019, while Michigan and Florida kick off the 2017 season in the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas.

USA Football Network named 21 football players from Michigan to its 2014 Pre-Season Division III All-Americans team. Trine University placed one player on the Honorable Mention team.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl has a new sponsor. The bowl gave so many Michigan State and Michigan fans nightmares.
