The Davey O’Brien Award rolled out its preseason watch list Wedneday with a few familiar faces making the cut.
The award named Michigan senior Devin Gardner, Michigan State junior Connor Cook and Notre Dame junior Everett Golson to its watch list.
Gardner accounted for 32 touchdowns and over 3,000 all-purpose yards last season, finishing 208-of-345 passing for 2,960 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also rushed 165 times for 483 yards and 11 touchdowns.
After he was named the starter last season, Cook was 217-of-364 throws for 2,713 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions in 13 games.
Golson sat out last season because of academics but in 2012, he lead the Fighting Irish to the national title by finishing 187-of-318 for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed 94 times for 298 yards and six touchdowns.
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston won the 2013 Davey O’Brien Award.
