Big Ten Preseason Poll: Media picks Michigan State second in division

The Big Ten media members are a tough crowd for the Michigan State Spartans, the reigning conference and Rose Bowl champions.

The media selected Michigan State to finish second in the East in its recent preseason poll released over the weekend. The Spartans finished 13-1 with wins over Michigan, Ohio State and Stanford last season. Their only loss came against Notre Dame after a few questionable penalties hurt MSU’s defensive backfield.

The same shirt-stained, smelly media members picked Michigan to finish third in the East. That’s a bit of a reach considering the Wolverines ended last year 7-6 with losses to all three of its rivals. They also lost to Kansas State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. Penn State is clearly a better team than Michigan this year, so it’ll be interesting to see how wrong the media actually at the end of the season.

The full preseason poll:

1. Ohio State
2. Michigan State
3. Michigan
4. Penn State
5. Maryland
6. Indiana
7. Rutgers

1. Wisconsin
2. Iowa
3. Nebraska
4. Northwestern
5. Minnesota
6. Illinois
7. Purdue
